The Half Moon, 24″ x 36″, oil on canvas. The ship the Half Moon, also spelled “halve maen” by the Dutch, was sponsored by the Dutch East India company in the year 1609. Henry Hudson, an Englishman, captained this vessel as it made its way up the Hudson River to Albany. It is pictured in the fall of 1609 at the north end of what is now Haverstraw Bay. Minisceonogo Yacht Club is a club on the Hudson River that was started in 1941. The club is located on Haverstraw Bay north of the Tappan Zee Bridge and south of the Indian Point Power Plant.

The location of this historic site is on East 29th street, Paterson NJ. The painting depicts the site of where Pappy Hough began his career as a mechanical genious. Back in the hey day of early racing in the 1930’s and 1940″s Racers would bring their damaged cars down here to be repaired. The number 7 car was owned and driven by Bill Wilson of Mahwah New Jersey who by the way is still racing over 50 years later.

The Riviera was located on the Palisades just north of the George Washington Bridge in Fort Lee New Jersey.

The famous night club sat around over one thousand people. The roof rolled off the club on nice nights, and the dance floor revolved. The bandstand also revolved, featuring a Latin Band on one side and an American Band on the other. Great Entertainers like Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Durante, Jackie Leonard, Tony Martin, Martin and Lewis, Peggy Lee, Vic Damone, Eddie Fisher and Sammy Davis Jr. with the Will Masten Trio all worked here. My father was the security guard there for many years and that is why I painted this picture.

The painting was done to memorialize the opening of the Broadway hit show, Jersey Boys. Bob Gaudio, an original member of the Four Seasons, was also an original member of the Royal Teens the group that wrote and recorded the song Short Shorts. I was an original member of that group and therefore an old friend of Bob Gaudio. The cars depicted in the painting were the first cars owned by the Four Seasons. Check out the License plates, you can see the initials on them. The red and white Ford down the block was my car, and that is the car that Bobby and I wrote Short Shorts in.
